 Cancún is growing, the population has jumped to more than 500,000 in less than 30 years and most people live Downtown. All city government offices are located downtown, together with the banks, post office, police and fire stations, schools, hospitals and supermarkets. The ethnic profile of the city is mixed, and Mayan women from the rural areas can be seen in the streets, speaking their own language and sporting the hipil (dress). A walking tour of Avenida Tulum, the main street is recommended.
