 The Hotel Zone is shaped like the number 'seven'. To the north is Mujeres Bay, and about 8 km offshore, Isla Mujeres. To the east is the Caribbean and to the west is Nichupté Lagoon, all 28.8 sq. km of it. The island is connected to the mainland by bridges at either end; one spans the Nichupté Canal just four kilometers from town, the other, the Nizuc Canal. At this end, the road continues west for several kilometers to meet Highway 307.
