From the Riviera Maya, take Highway 307 to Tulum and follow the turnoff marked “Cobá”. It’s a 40-minute drive to the site. An alternative route is to take Highway 180 east (the road to Chichén Itzá and Mérida) to Nuevo Xcan. The turn-off south to Cobá is identified with a sign; you can’t miss it, and from there it’s another 62 km to the site. From Chichén Itzá you can also take the road to Valladolid and on to the colonial village of Chemax and a back road to Cobá. There are a couple of hotels at Cobá and several restaurants.
