The ferry dock in Playa del Carmen is one of the town’s busiest venues. Cozumel is the largest inhabited island in Mexico, the region’s dive spot par excellence and a major destination in its own right since the 1950s. The island is visible from shore and the crossing takes from 40 to 50 minutes, depending on the wind. A boat leaves every 30 minutes, starting about 5 a.m. and the majority of these are modern, air-conditioned water jets. Dolphins can often be spotted during the crossing.
