 A couple of kilometers south of Puerto Aventuras lie several interesting cenotes. The Chacmool cenote is comprised of several interconnecting bodies of water which have only recently been explored. The expedition divers discovered tunnels, caves and the longest underwater stalactite in the world, 12 meters long. Other cenotes open to the public are Cenote Azul, the twin cenotes Cristal and El Escondido, Kan Tun Chi, Sask'alech-Há, Zazil-Há and Uchil-Há. All have crystalline waters, some an intense blue color, and a few are suitable for swimming. Rustic wooden signs beside the highway mark the entrances to the cenotes and there is an entry fee.
