Markets

Ki Huic and Plaza Garibaldi are mercados de artesanías or craft markets located in the middle of Tulum Avenue in downtown Cancún. Vendors stock crafts from all over the country. Markets let visitors mix with the locals and practice their Spanish. In addition to greengrocers, butchers and herbalists, traditional mercados have such typically Mexican shops like dulcerías (candy stores) which also carry piñatas. For neighborhood mercados that also carry crafts try Mercado 28, behind the Post Office, or Mercado 23, at Tulum and Chichén Itzá avenues. Downtown malls include Plaza Las Américas, Chinatown, Plaza Bonita (next to Market 28), Plaza Las Avenidas, Las Palmas and Cancún 2000. The major supermarkets are Walmart, Comercial Mexicana, Chedraui, Gigante, Sam’s Club, Soriana, Carrefour and Costco.
