Chankanaab Park

The park offers visitors a variety of attractions and never fails to please. A cenote, or natural sinkhole located in the park and near the beach is linked to the open ocean by an underwater passage. This tunnel, and the exchange of water it permits, is the reason for the extraordinary corals growing in the cenote (typically a fresh water phenomenon).

The park’s beach is lovely and the ocean calm, perfect for snorkeling and free-style swimming. Dozens of species of tropical fish and small corals inhabit the area. The park’s Botanical Garden has a section dedicated to indigenous island plants, and another harboring 350 species of tropical plants from over 20 different countries. There is a swim-with dolphins program and an ‘interactive’ museum with reproductions of ancient Mayan landmark structures. The park has changing rooms, snorkel rentals, a dive shop, restaurant and other services.
