 Take Highway 180 to Nuevo Xcan. En route you’ll pass through the villages of Leona Vicario, Valladolid Nuevo and Cristóbal Colón, among others. Look out for roadside stalls selling embroidered dresses and blouses, citrus fruit and plants. At Nuevo Xcan take the road north to Kantunilkín and the port of Chiquilá. It’s a three-hour drive and there are many potholes. The ferry from Chiquilá takes 30 minutes to Holbox and the last boat is at 5 p.m. If you miss it one of the local fishermen will ferry you across in his water taxi.
