The village is rustic and the atmosphere is friendly: sandy streets lined with palm-thatched huts, wooden houses and a main square with a bandstand. Several small restaurants serve fresh seafood and there are comfortable, sometimes even luxurious, tropical-style thatched cabañas (bungalows) for rent along the waterfront. Holbox has been targeted for low-impact, low density tourist development and accommodation and dining options on the island are on the rise.
