Once home to some of the most important cultures in ancient America, Mexico
is steeped in history and colorful traditions. Its landscapes are equally diverse
and the vast territory is a biological treasure house. From north to south,
east to west, Mexico offers something for every visitor. The country is divided
into six tourist regions:
- The Pacific (Baja California Norte and Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit)
- The North (Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas)
- Colonial Mexico (Michoacán, Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Colima,
San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato and Querétaro)
- The Heart of Mexico (Mexico City and the state of Mexico, Morelos, Guerrero,
Hidalgo and Tlaxcala)
- The Route of the Gods (Veracruz, Puebla and Oaxaca)
- The Maya World (Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo).
The Mexican Maya World welcomes the Caribbean in the state of Quintana Roo
and crosses the border into Central America and the nations of Guatemala, Belize,
Honduras and El Salvador. In the Maya World there are mountains, jungles, wetlands,
savannas, beaches and islands– with the wildlife to match. Spanish colonial
cities rose from the ashes of ancient temples and today's prevailing Mestizo
culture is the result of the two races, white and Indian, having merged so long
ago. Modern services and transport make traveling the Maya World a pleasure.
Hotels, restaurants and other facilities exist everywhere.
