The Olmec, a Mesoamerican mother culture, flourished in Tabasco. The Pantanos de Centla Biosphere Reserve is the state’s most important protected area. The capital, Villahermosa is the home of La Venta Park Museum, which features the colossal stone heads associated with the Olmec. Mayan sites include Comalcalco and Pomoná and Oxolotán reflects the state's colonial period.
