The natural inlet or caleta is home to countless species of colorful fish which can be seen from the path. By the restaurant there is a sea turtle enclosure housing a number of these engaging reptiles, some hatchlings, others approaching adulthood. Xcaret collaborates with local authorities in the turtle conservation program. Eggs are collected from the nests and the young are kept in ponds until they are large enough to have a better chance of survival in the wild. On the other side of the rocks, the bay is perfect for sunbathing. This is also the site of one of the park’s dolphin enclosures. Xcaret operates a popular dolphin program and has successfully bred a number of the animals, something which has won the park international acclaim.
