Quintana Roo is an interesting mix of people from all over Mexico and the world, not to mention the Maya whose ancestral home it is. Foreigners who have settled in the state include groups from the Lebanon and other countries along the Levant that arrived at the turn of the century, Guatemalans, Belizeans, Canadians, Americans, Europeans and even Asians.
Caribbean influence permeates Chetumal and other communities along the border with Belize, notably in the cuisine, architecture and music.
