Mayan religious beliefs are a mixture of ancient ceremonies and the Christian rituals introduced by 16th-century missionaries. Isolation and the effects of the Caste War also played a part in the transformation of religious customs. In the Zona Maya, the inhabitants go to church and also attend ceremonies conducted by the H-men or Mayan priest.
